Alzheimer's Disease Center

The Alzheimer's Disease Center (ADC) at NYU School of Medicine is one of thirty Alzheimer's disease research centers in the United States supported by the National Institutes on Aging. The ADC pulls together the resources of several fields supporting a comprehensive multidisciplinary research program on Alzheimer's disease. Its goal is to increase scientific knowledge about the origins and progression of brain aging and Alzheimer's disease and related disorders, and to use this knowledge to develop methods for early diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

Clinical Research and Service Programs

The focus of the Institute’s clinical research and service programs is on enhancing diagnostic testing for cognitive impairment, testing pharmacologic treatments, developing and evaluating non-pharmacologic and psychosocial treatments, and advancing the clinical understanding of the brain aging and the disease process in neurodegenerative disorders in order to improve the care of patients and families. Services provided at the Institute include diagnostic evaluations for Alzheimer’s disease, Mild Cognitive Impairment and Age-Associated Memory Impairment, counseling services for patients and families, clinical trials, and autopsy. All clinical research and service programs are part of New York University School of Medicine.

Basic and Translational Research Programs

The Insitute’s basic and translational research programs represent the work of molecular biology laboratories whose goals are to advance scientific knowledge regarding the etiology and underlying mechanisms of brain aging, Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders, to develop and test new therapies using laboratory models and to prepare them for use in clinical settings. Basic and translational research programs are situated either at the NYU School of Medicine or at the Nathan Kline Insititute.
