Emma Shulman, CSW is a social worker and gerontologist. Emma Shulman is a Senior Family Counselor at the NYU Silberstein Aging & Dementia Research Center, research coordinator of an NIA supported longitudinal study of aging and Alzheimers disease, collaborator on several caregiver research studies and co-leader of two caregiver support groups that she and her colleague, Gertrude Steinberg, began at the ADRC. Emma Shulman plays a vital role in education and outreach projects of the ADRC by coordinating educational seminars on normal aging and Alzheimers disease, organizing memory screenings in community centers and speaking about memory impairment and Alzheimers disease in senior centers and retirement communities. Emma Shulmans interests include improving the well-being of patients and their families through social support and counseling, behavior management of Alzheimers patients, and training home health aides to work with patients in all stages of Alzheimers disease. She is the co-author of several handbooks, manuals and numerous articles about Alzheimers disease caregiving. Emma Shulmans contributions to the field of Alzheimers disease include being among those individuals instrumental in starting the New York City chapter of the Alzheimers Association where she has served as Chairperson of the Speakers Bureau, and Development and Training Specialist for leaders of caregiver support groups.
