Istvan J.E. Boksay, M.D., Ph.D. Associate Clinical Director
Dr. Boksays major research interests include clinical stages of normal aging and dementia, particularly the stage specific progression of cognitive, medical, neurological, behavioral and functional changes; the effect of medical conditions on the course of dementia, psychopharmacological treatment of cognitive and behavior disturbances in elderly dementia patients; treatment of depression in the elderly with or without dementia; treatment of depression in the elderly with serious medical conditions; and the effects of hydrocephalus on the course of dementia. Before practicing psychiatry, Dr. Boksay was a well known clinical pharmacologist and made significant contributions to the evaluation of pentoxyfilline (Trental) and propranolol (Inderal). Dr. Boksay was elected as Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) in 1996. He is a member of the APA Council on Aging; past President of the Tri-county chapter of the New Jersey Psychiatric Association, and serves on several special committees at NYU Medical Center. Dr. Boksay is the author of numerous articles about psychopharmacology and Alzheimers disease.
