Silberstein Alzheimer's Institute/Center of Excellence on Brain Aging Integration
This website was formerly the location of the NYU Langone Medical Center's Silberstein Alzheimer's Institute.
The Center of Excellence on Brain Aging was founded upon the strengths of the existing Silberstein Alzheimer's Institute, which for decades has been devoted to the understanding, cure and prevention of age-related cognitive decline through research, public education and evidence-based clinical care. Its mission: to translate an understanding of brain aging, AD and related disorders into effective strategies for early diagnosis and treatment; and, to promote healthy aging and deter cognitive decline within a clinical setting. The newly established COE incorporates all elements of the Silberstein Alzheimer's Institute which includes more than 15 research programs and labs dedicated to Alzheimer’s Disease as well as The Pearl Barlow Center for Memory Evaluation and Treatment. Inaugurated in May 2007 as an outpatient clinic to serve patients with memory disorders and their families, the Barlow Center has expanded its operation within the COE to include specialty clinics devoted to non-Alzheimer’s disease dementias and Prion diseases and Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus. Additionally, the Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Center, once a stand-alone clinic, will now be integrated into the clinical operations of the CoE.
